You have several options to consider if your interests include aircraft and avionics related careers. Depending on your career goals and time frame you may be able to complete your education in four years or less. Some aircraft related trade schools offer two year or less programs. Check with all schools to interest to learn why types of programs they offer.
Avionics training is offered at multiple school and college campuses across the United States. Finding one that is right for you may take some time and doing your homework. Just because one may not be located near by does not mean you should rule it out. This is your career so it may make sense to live out of state or in a different city while you complete your education.
Generally speaking if you are interested in becoming an avionics technician you will learn many different things such as how to maintain, calibrate, and install different on board avionic systems. What types of systems do technicians learn how to install? These may include electronic systems, hydraulics, autopilot, radar, and navigation and communication systems. Looking at this it is probably fairly obvious that electronics and aviation go hand in hand. So if you have an interest in electronics and airplanes this could very well be your career calling!
As part of your training, including hands on training, you will likely learn many specialized skills in addition to theory. Some of these skills may include troubleshooting skills such as diagnostics and circuits tracing. You will also likely learn about component replacement. You can also expect to learn how to read electronics diagrams that may be either simple or complex. These are just some of the types of things you may learn from programs in avionics schools. What you will learn specifically will depend on the program you choose. When deciding on a school it would be wise to ensure that is an accredited avionics program. Some common programs that may be considered hot are those in aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics or service technicians.
