For someone working in a hair salon or as a barber their main job is usually cutting people’s hair for a living. This type of career is going to require you to stand on your feet a lot as that is the way most people working in a salon perform their job. Other job duties of a cosmetologist who works as a hair cutter, barber, hair stylist, etc. may also include performing other services such as shampooing and conditioning hair, arranging and beautifying, coloring, dyeing, straightening, tinting, and waving a persons hair. Most of these services would be performed in a hair salon as opposed to a more traditional barbershop; however as a career in cosmetology each of those professionals would likely need proper career training from a cosmetology trade school or a career training program from a college offering such courses.

If you are considering going to a cosmetology trade school or college but have not yet made up your mind what career field you would like to enter we recommend you 1) request information from all of the schools and colleges you are interested in who offer vocational training classes in cosmetology and 2) contact at least one other vocational institution or maybe even more that are located nearby to see what other types of career training is available that you may also be interested in. If you still can not make up your mind do not do nothing as time could pass by very quickly.
